WFS Report 2022 Edition

SPSG Consulting co-organised a workshop as part of the "World Football Summit 2022": the event where the entire football industry meets (held in Seville on 28-29 September 2022).

More than 40 discussions covered topics such as sustainability, finance, women's football and technology optimisation, among others. Among the workshops, Carlos Cantó of SPSG Consulting led "Ownership and Governance in Football: Challenges for the Future", which contributed to a subsequent report on the industry's governance and ownership challenges. The methodology employed consisted of an online survey and a literature review. The collaboration of industry professionals in the workshop enriched the knowledge on football ownership and governance, and they were acknowledged and thanked for their time and expertise in the production of the report.

European football has seen a surge in investment, attracting stakeholders from around the world despite recent financial uncertainties. The industry, valued at $3.02 billion in 2021, is expected to reach $3.87 billion by 2027, encouraging the evolution of governance and financing methods. This WFSEurope 2022 workshop explored these changes, discussing ownership, types of investment and club governance, which are reflected in the subsequent report.
